It's amazing how something so simple, so beautiful, can make such a difference in someone's life. We are selling necklaces hand-made in Uganda, Africa by women who are living in conditions most of us in North America could barely imagine living in.
We experienced some of these conditions first-hand while traveling through East Africa in 2007 and decided to do something about it. The funds raised by selling these necklaces provide so much for these women - from safe healthy living conditions, to education to their children to independence. The necklaces are purchased fair-trade (the artisans set the prices) and the proceeds support projects back to Africa. In fact, we will be applying for a matching grant through the Rotary club of Waterdown (Ontario, Canada) and the Rotary club of Muyenga (Kampala, Uganda), which could double the funds raised. If you can imagine, some people in Africa live on $1-$2 a day - just think what we can achieve with the funds raised! Funds raised will be used towards projected implemented by a local Rotary club for maximum impact.
